Joe Calzaghe has been invited to be Honorary Captain of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when the NFL returns to Wembley on Sunday 25th October. Joining Calzaghe will be die-hard NFL fan and TV presenter Vernon Kay as co-captain of the Buccaneers and Sir Elton John, who has also accepted the New England Patriots invitation to fulfill the same role for the visiting side.
The Bucs - the UK's adopted home team for the fixture - host the Patriots in the 2009 Pepsi Max NFL International Series NFL game.
As Honorary Captains, Calzaghe and Kay will be asked to take part in the pre-game coin toss, team huddle and will represent the team to UK fans.
Speaking of his appointment, Calzaghe said, "I am delighted and honoured to be chosen as the Buccaneers Honorary Captain for the day. My boys will be with me at the game so I am looking forward to being part of the whole NFL experience as a family."
Alistair Kirkwood, Managing Director of NFL UK said "We are delighted that such a huge range of high-profile British names have joined the party at Wembley, guaranteeing all our fans a top NFL experience. It is important for us to create the same atmosphere in London that fans come to expect from the big NFL shows back home."
Calzaghe, Kay and Sir Elton will all be stepping out front of a sell-out crowd of more than 82,000 American football fans from both sides of the Atlantic.
The on-pitch pre-game show begins at 4:30 PM on Sunday October 25th, with Calvin Harris performing on field as well as anthem singer Katherine Jenkins. The game kicks-off at 5:00 PM.
Coverage of all the NFL Wembley action starts on Sky Sports 2 from 4:00 PM, with highlights shown on BBC Two later that evening
